EXCERPT FROM PROFESSOR CARLOS' INTRODUCTION TO HIS COURSE PROPOSAL FOR A HEGELIAN MARXISM

Welcome to the course Proposal for a Hegelian Marxism.

In general, this course will present a theoretical development independent of textual validation from Marx’s writings or the Marxist tradition. While such validation likely exists (and where it does not, I will simply create what is needed), I will not use the traditional method of quoting and commenting on texts for methodological and theoretical reasons, which I will explain throughout the course. Accessible Marx texts related to our topics will be shared weekly for optional independent study but will not be discussed in class.

Classes require no special preparation. Readings are optional, and materials are public domain—use them freely, even without citing sources.

The first two classes introduce the proposal’s premises, historical/political context, and method. From Class 3 onward, we focus on content.
